Featured article: Construction of a Smartphone-based Support System for Diabetic Patients at Home

New Content Item

In recent years, the number of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) has been increasing. New International Diabetes Federation (IDF) data reveals the diabetes epidemic continues to escalate. A 2015 survey by the IDF estimated 7.2 million people with DM in Japan. DM causes various complications, such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy, cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, and arteriosclerosis obliterans, because secretion of insulin that controls blood sugar level does not function normally. Therefore, the quality of life is reduced. For prevention of various complications, the patient should be managed not only by a specialist but also by him- or herself on a daily basis to better control blood sugar levels. However, there has not been an effective method for patients to manage their blood sugar levels at home.

In this study, we developed a smartphone-based support system for patients with diabetes at home. The system is composed of a smartphone used by the patient,

(E-periodical: ISSN 2345-7945)
The Global Science and Technology Forum (GSTF) publishes, in print and online, international journals that feature peer-reviewed scholarly articles rigorously selected from conferences and open call for papers. These articles are the end result of scholars’ tremendous effort and creativeness in exploring the theory, application, and social implications of diverse frontier research areas in science and technology. GSTF journals are indexed by UlrichswebEconBizEBSCOCrossRefProQuestCabell’s DirectoriesIndex Copernicus,JournalSeek and will be submitted to Zentralblatt MATHScopusScienceDirect and amongst others, where applicable.

A research paper submitted to GSTF Journal on Agricultural Engineering (JAE) must be original that are unpublished and cannot be under review for publication elsewhere during the time it is being considered for GSTF Journal on Agricultural Engineering (JAE). Furthermore, after you submit a paper to GSTF Journal on Agricultural Engineering (JAE), you must await the response from GSTF Journal on Agricultural Engineering (JAE) and only resubmit elsewhere if your paper is rejected–or withdrawn at your request–from GSTF Journal on Agricultural Engineering (JAE).

An Automated Approach for Screening Microaneurysms and Exudates of NPDR Patient

Non-proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy is a health problem which is prevalent in diabetic patients. It is caused by the expansion of untwisted blood vessels that over time, result in microaneurysms, haemorrhages, and exudates in the retina. This is the preliminary reason for visual impairment and eventual blindness in adults.

Human Motion Matching for Assisting Standard Thai Folk Dance Learning

Motion capture techniques are a well-known method for digitizing body movement. They are used in entertainment, sport, medical application and education. The main process of the application is motion matching by using discrete motion samples, which represent body postures, to compare an aggregate distance metric between the two postures. In this work, we introduce a motion evaluation of standard Thai folk dance.

A Proposal for Imaging Reverse Proxy Server for Content Protection of Web Sites

This paper proposes a method that uses an imaging reverse proxy server to protect contents of web sites against plagiarists. The imaging reverse proxy server is placed between clients (web browsers) and web servers, and it behaves like as if it were a normal reverse proxy server except converting author-specified contents to images that have almost the same appearances as the original contents.
